The expat's guide to Accra neighbourhoods in 2026
East Legon, Cantonments, Airport Residential, Labone — what each area is really like to live in, and who it suits.
Choosing where to live in Accra
The neighbourhood you choose will shape your entire Ghana experience. Here's our honest assessment of the areas we work in most.
East Legon
The most popular choice for expat families. Wide roads, good supermarkets (Melcom, Marina Mall is close), and a strong international school cluster. Traffic to the CBD is painful during rush hour. Best for: families, longer assignments.
Cantonments
Old money, embassies, and diplomatic residences. Quieter than East Legon, closer to the CBD. Some of the best compound houses in Accra. Best for: executives, embassy staff, couples.
Airport Residential Area
Extremely convenient if you travel frequently — you're 10 minutes from Kotoka. Good mix of apartments and houses. Best for: frequent travellers, shorter assignments.
Labone
Where Expat GH is based. Established neighbourhood, excellent restaurants nearby, walkable in parts. Best for: professionals who want a local feel with expat amenities close.
